Thursday, June 14th, 2012

We are really excited to announce that we’re moving to bigger premises in Market Hill, St Ives. Currently, the new shop is undergoing a complete refurbishment and when it’s finished it will give us lots more space and a great position in the centre of the town where we plan to stock an even wider range of Jewellery, Gifts and Accessories.

June Birthstone

Friday, June 1st, 2012

Pearls are considered to be the birthstone of June and have been given to brides as gifts and used to adorn crowns, clothes and temples throughout history. Although not strictly a gemstone, the beautiful lustre of the pearl symbolises purity and innocence .  Traditionally, pearls were found in the sea and commanded a high price – mainly due to their rarity and the dangers the divers faced recovering them.  Nowadays farmed and cultured pearls are available in abundance and it’s almost impossible for us to conceive of the value of pearls in ancient times.  Folklore says that pearls were teardrops from the moon swallowed by oysters and it’s said that the Tsar of Russia built an entire army on the sale of just one of his mother’ pearl earrings.
